Description

Introduction

Zoxan D Eye/Ear drops is an effective combination medicine that is formulated using Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride as well as Dexamethasone. This unique formula was developed to treat infectious and inflammatory diseases that impact both the eye and ear through the combination of a broad-spectrum antibiotic and a potent corticosteroid.

Zoxan D works by simultaneously combating bacterial infections while decreasing swelling, inflammation, and discomfort. It is typically used by doctors to treat the treatment of otitis externa, bacterial conjunctivitis, and various other bacterial infections that are accompanied by inflammatory symptoms.

Active Ingredients

  • Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride: 0.3% w/v
Second-generation fluoroquinolone antibacterial is efficient against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It does this by blocking the DNA gyrase in bacterial cells and topoisomerase IV enzymes that are essential for the replication of DNA in bacterial cells, repair, transcription, and recombination. This prevents an increase in bacterial population and ultimately leads to the death of cells.
  • Dexamethasone: 0.1% w/v
an effective corticosteroid that decreases swelling, inflammation, redness, and itching. It does this by reducing the immune response as well as the release of mediators of inflammation in the area of infection.

Indications

Zoxan D Eye/Ear Drops are indicated for the treatment of:

  1. Bacterial Eye Infections
  • Bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Blepharitis (eyelid inflammation)
  • Keratitis (corneal infections)
  • Other ocular conditions that cause superficial inflammation in which both bacterial infections and inflammation occur.
  1. Bacterial Ear Infections
  • Otitis externa (swimmer’s ear)
  • External ear infections cause inflammation as well as the growth of bacteria.
  1. Inflammatory Conditions with Secondary Bacterial Infection
  • In instances in which inflammation can aggravate inflammation of the ear or eye.

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride

  • Ciprofloxacin is bactericidal and targets the DNA gyrase enzyme of bacterial cells as well as topoisomerase IV. This blocks DNA replication and transcription, leading to the death of bacterial cells.
  • It’s efficient against numerous known pathogens responsible for ocular or ear infections. This includes Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis.

Dexamethasone

  • A corticosteroid to suppress the inflammation response through blocking numerous inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, such as phospholipase A2.
  • Reduces Redness, pain, and swelling. It also helps to prevent damage to tissues caused by the immune system that can occur when there are infections.

In combination, the two treatments address both inflammation and infected areas, which speeds recovery while increasing your overall health.

Dosage and Administration

For Eye Use

  • Dose 1-2 drops of the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours.
  • In extreme cases, the dosage could be increased to 2 hours at first, as recommended by a medical professional.
  • You should continue treatment for 7-10 days, or until prescribed by your doctor.
  • Be careful not to touch the tip of your dropper with any object or your eye to keep it from getting contaminated.

For Ear Use

  • The affected ear should be cleaned gently before applying.
  • Dose 3-4 drops in the ear canal affected 3-4 times per day.
  • Keep your head in a downward position to permit the medication to go deeply into the ear canal.
  • The treatment duration typically ranges between 7 and 10 days, or based on the prescribed regimen.
